The Great Himalayas or Himalaya, literally meaning "abode of snow", is a mountain range in the Indian subcontinent which separates the Indo-Gangetic Plain from the Tibetan Plateau. The Himalayas have profoundly shaped the cultures of South Asia. Along the northeastern flank of the Kashmir Valley runs the main range of the Himalayas and divides the valley from Ladakh.
