Albania received last week a large supply of Sinovac vaccines from Turkey, enabling it to start a mass vaccination for the above 70 age group. Since it started its vaccination program in January, Albania has managed to administer the first dose to only 2,2% of its population (mostly medical staff, teachers, and the most vulnerable over 80ies) as supplies of EMA approved vaccines the country was planning to use came in far smaller numbers. To advance its vaccination program Albania signed a contract for 1 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine with a Turkish supplier and it received almost 20% of the order already, allowing it to start large-scale vaccination of the elderly.
