The background is numerous threatening and insulting letters to Muslim religious communities and other public or Christian institutions in Lower Saxony, Hesse, Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia. They were sent in 2017 and in the period from 2020 to 2023. The main target group of the letters with mostly right-wing extremist content were Muslim religious communities.
