Thousands celebrate in Algiers as Algeria wins FIFA Arab Cup title

ALGIERS, ALGERIA - DECEMBER 18: Thousands of Algerian filled streets and squares of the capital Algiers after their national team was crowned for the first time in the Arab Football Cup, which was held in Qatar on Saturday (Dec. 18).There was a large traffic jam in the center of the capital was due to the influx of thousands of cars after the end of the match, which was shown on giant screens placed by the authorities in various city squares.Revelers also set off fireworks in various streets and neighborhoods of the capital, while citizens celebrated by blowing car horns.In the Central Post Square, hundreds of citizens gathered and danced to the rhythm of sports songs and fireworks.Algeria on Saturday beat Tunisia 2-0 to win their first FIFA Arab Cup held in Qatar.The final of the Arab Cup started with attacking intentions from both sides.Tunisia was focusing on direct attempts and shooting from afar, while Algeria was depending more on penetration from the sides and crosses.However, both the teams failed to score in both halves.Algeria’s first goal was scored by Amir Sayoud in the ninth minute of extra-time.Yacine Brahimi sealed his country’s victory with the second goal that came in the last minute of the extra time.The previous nine editions of the Arab Cup have been won by five teams.
