Due to Ukraine-Russia war, truck queue reaches 10 miles at Türkiye-Georgia border crossing

ARDAHAN, TÜRKİYE - JULY 1: Hundreds of trucks, which changed their routes due to the Ukraine-Russia war, caused 16 kilometers (nearly 10 miles) long queue at the Cildir-Aktas Customs Gate between Türkiye and Georgia in northeastern Ardahan city.Drivers have been waiting for days to cross the border at the customs gate.“As long as the war continues, this intensity will continue because maritime traffic has completely turned to land. There is a high density because all the trucks going via Russia use the Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan lines via Georgia,” said Cetin Demirci, Head of Ardahan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.“We think that the intensity will continue as long as this war continues, the outcome of the war will also affect the intensity of the traffic,” he added.A truck driver Mehmet Daglar said that they have been waiting to cross the border for three days to go to Azerbaijan.“We lined up at 11 kilometers, three days ago, we have three kilometers to the door. Friends coming from Georgia said that there is intensity there too,” Daglar told Anadolu Agency.More than 4,700 civilians have been killed in Ukraine since the war with Russia started on Feb. 24.Over 14 million people have been forced to flee their homes, including more than 7.7 million that have fled to other countries, according to UN figures.
