Nazaré is a tourist town in Portugal belonging to the historical province of Estremadura. The tradition of "Peixe Seco" (Dry fish), drying the fish in excess, is very old in this land of fishermen. It arose from the need to conserve fish as long as possible, to guarantee the livelihood of families when it was scarce. Although also, this way of treating fish, allowed them to keep it and then be sold in the markets of the region, something that continues to happen today.
