Le chef d'escadron (commandant) Matelly a été radié des cadres par "mesure disciplinaire", une mesure rarissime, pour avoir critiqué le rapprochement police-gendarmerie au sein du ministère de l'Intérieur. Cette mesure, la plus lourde en la matière, prise par un décret du président de la République, a été "signifiée ce 25 mars 2010" à l'intéressé, a précisé à l'AFP son avocat, Me David Dassa-Le Deist. Matelly s'était exprimé publiquement en tant que chercheur du CNRS, fin 2008, en critiquant le rapprochement police-gendarmerie au sein du ministère de l'Intérieur, effectif depuis le 1er janvier 2009, notamment dans un article de presse, cosigné avec un autre chercheur du CNRS n'étant pas gendarme, Cristian Mouhana. Commandant Matelly was controversially discharged from his position for disciplinary reasons after criticising the bridge in the French Ministry of Interior's management of the police and the gendarmerie (previously managed by the Ministry of Defense). Jean-Hugues Matelly had openly criticised the Minister of Interior during his work as a researcher at the French national research centre (CNRS), yet reprimanded by the French President Sarkozy for violating his position as a gendarme.
