It forms part of Ian McGregor's policy to make other pits in the British coal filed similar to this / this industrial vandalism and that's the only we you can describe it / part and parcel of the NCB's plans to butcher this industry / some 20 years ago Britain had half a million miners / producing over 200 million tons of coal / at one period over 90 percent of Britain's energy needs were supplied by the NCB / This kind of industrial vandalism is becoming all too apparent and not only does it mean the death of a pit but the death of a mining community / a culture a way of life / they destroyed at the stroke of an accountants pen / it's that kind of policy that Ian McGregor and the NCB are seeking to inflict on the British coal mining industry / Britain produces the cheapest deep mine coal in the world / they no longer see a developing and expanding coal industry /only see things in black and white terms on a balance sheet / this is the real vandalism in Britain today / something we have to stop / this is why miners are on strike / fighting to survive and maintain their industry / their pits their jobs and their way of life / really what's at stake in this dispute
