Report of Lord Evans late last year is with PM now and makes clear-cut recommendations. Not all of them will be easy for PM to swallow. Takes power from PM and puts them in independent hands. We need people who run ethics committees to be independently appointed. They should not just be promoted. That committee should have statutory backing. Protects public life and protects PM. Sometimes a huge fuss is made - they're damaging to government /
