Alastair Campbell (Tony Blair's Director of Communications, 1997-2000) interview SOT
- (On whether main parties campaigns have been making a difference) Very hard to know difference it has or hasn't made; you're talking about millions of people, some of whom won't have followed any of this, others will have followed it very closely / if you had to boil it down, the Tories got off to a bad start then made some noise with a few bold strokes that don't appear to have worked for them, and Labour have looked pretty solid up until this stumble over Diane Abbott / this is an election essentially being driven by the feeling of 'time for a change' with the focus on cost of living and the NHS
Sir Craig Oliver (Downing Street Director of Communications, 2011-2016) interview SOT
- (Has anything changed this week) It's true that Conservatives had a better week than last week, couldn't have gone any worse at the start, the rain-soaked Downing Street announcement and what went on at the Titanic Centre in Belfast / they've got good coverage, leading bulletins, do I think that's changed the fundamentals, not really; I don't think they've done enough to change people's minds / I think the Labour Party's had a very difficult last few days but again I don't think that's going to cut through too much / it's knocked Keir Starmer in the sense people thought he was in control, but I'm not sure it's going to change a huge amount at the votes.
