MOP, a Sydney-based pro-feminist group, is helping sweep "new men" to the fore.Short for Men Opposing Patriarchy, the organisation has a male membership of more than 170 ranging in age between 18 and 60. It holds weekly discussion groups, publishes a newsletter, organises weekends away and a four-day festival once a year.Jonathan Doig, a 24-year-old computer programmer, has been involved with MOP for several years. He could be classed as a novitiate "new man"."To me the aim is to generate awareness of men's roles and issues relating to men, particularly questions raised by feminism and men's power," Jonathan says.
