Rudolph Valentino (1895-1926), Italian-born American film star, first appeared on stage as a dancer, before making his screen debut in 1919. His first starring role came in 1921 as Julio in The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Valentino's performance in several other films established him as the leading 'screen lover' of the 1920's.
