This is a badge of of Capt. Mike Ford of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept – Ford is the captain for Operation Safe Streets where Deputy Jerry Ortiz worked. A press conference was held at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept to discuss the slaying of Deputy Jerry Ortiz. Ortiz, was assigned to a gang enforcement team, was shot and killed while conducting a follow–up investigation in Hawaiian Gardens on Friday, 6/24/05. The press conference, held on Saturday, 6/25/05, was attended by sheriff Lee Baca, Mayor–Elect Antonio Villaraigosa, and District Attorney Steve Cooley.
