Senator Schumer floor remarks against insurance mandate repeal in tax reform

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York says that the Republican tax plan would exacerbate income inequality already spiraling out of control while the middle class is left stuck in neutral but Republicans made two changes to make the bill even worse by deciding to throw the mother of all monkey wrenches into the bill by repealing the individual insurance coverage mandate, raising premiums on average Americans healthcare to give the wealthy. A tax cut that destabilizes markets and raises premiums as younger, healthier people would flee the market. Schumer says where Republicans are willing to pass the bipartisan Alexander-Murray compromise to restore federal insurance cost sharing subsidies would not work by attempting to blow up the health care system and then offering to make a a few tweaks, which Democrats would not fall for, so anyone who thinks they can justify the changes by passing Alexander-Murray was wrong on substance and wrong on the politics because it would not pass.
