Baroness Thatcher unveils statue of herself at Westminster: General views of attendees / Thatcher speech and unveiling statue; Michael Martin (Speaker of the House of Lords) speech SOT - Tonight, Baroness, the House of Commons that you so loved and respected are honouring you in the best way possible, I have been given the duty of welcome you back to this members lobby, a lobby that has been part of your life since you became the Member for Finchley in 1958, you have been joined by former members of your cabinet, honorable and right honorable members of both houses, the sculptor Anthony Dufort and the bronze workers from the foundry in London, the Works of Art committee must be thanked, they have worked so hard on this significant commission and the success has been owing to Hugo Swire, our chairman of the Speakers Arts Committee, I'm sure he would like me to acknowledge the work of his predecessor the late Tony Banks / Margaret, at a time where our society often measures achievements in terms of being first, you measure up so well in those terms, you were the first woman to be leader of her majestys opposition, the first woman Prime Minister to lead a major western democracy, your premiership was the longest in the 20th century, you succeeded in winning a vote of confidence in the government, I'm sure you didn't notice but in the aftermath of that night, the [unidentified constituency name?] labour party chose the young Michael Martin to be the parliamentary labour candidate, I came into the house on the same day you became the Prime Minister
