26 injured, homes, buildings damaged in northern quake

At least 26 people were injured, homes and buildings were damaged and power was cut off to thousands when the magnitude-6.7 earthquake struck off the coast of Yamagata Prefecture late on June 18. No fatalities have been reported, and electricity was restored early on June 19. The injuries, as of 9:45 a.m. on June 19, were reported in the northern prefectures of Miyagi, Yamagata, Niigata and Ishikawa, the Fire and Disaster Management Agency said. Among the injured was a man in his 30s in Tsubame, Niigata Prefecture, who fractured a leg in a fall down stairs after the quake struck at 10:22 p.m., according to prefectural government officials.
