University Students Turn To Van Life In A Bid To Save Costs
FALMOUTH, ENGLAND - JANUARY 07: FALMOUTH, ENGLAND, JANUARY 07: Third year students at Falmouth University, Max Richmond and Yasmine Fosu do university course work in their van on January 07, 2021 in Falmouth, England. Max, 21 from Essex, is taking a degree in Renewal Engineering and Yasmine, 20 from Bristol, studies French, Politics and International Relations. They met on their second day at Falmouth University. Max and Yasmine are one couple among a growing trend of young students throughout the UK who choose to live in vans to have freedom of movement and avoid accommodation rental costs. Their Iveco Panel van cost £3000 and approximately £6000 per year to run while rooms for students at the university costs £400 - £750 per month with a minimum of 6-months rental. The UK government's Covid lockdown official guidance says most students should stay at home but many intend to go back to their studies.
