(Original Caption) 2/24/1941- Washington DC - Buddy Baer, flat on the canvas, after the third and final knockdown in the sixth round of his exciting title bout with Joe Louis here. Most observers were agreed that the blow that sent the young giant to the canvas was inadvertently loosed by Louis after the bell had ended the sixth round. There was no doubt in their minds, however, that Louis would have won decisevely anyway. Official verdict was Baer's disqualification for failing to answer the seventh-round bell.
