The Month-long Face Painting Festival Starts In Qiubei County

The Face Painting Festival also known as Hualian Festival, is the grandest traditional festival of the Sani People (a branch of the Yi ethnic group) living around Puzhehei Resort of Qiubei County to exorcise and remove the evil. During the festival, villagers especially the youth will paint the faces black each other with collies or other materials. Now the painting face has become a way for the young to express love, the blacker the faces are painted, the deeper the love is believed to be.
