SLUG-ME-LOSTFOUND--DATE-06/11/2002--LOCATION-Spring Hill Elementary School, McLean, VA--PHOTOGRAPHER-MARVIN JOSEPH/TWP--CAPTION-Shirley Long, Assistant Principal of Spring Hill Elementary School, with her students in the school cafeteria examining items in the school's lost and found. Long is known as the "Queen of the Lost and Found." She walks around the Fairfax County school modeling clothes from the unclaimed piles of bounty, and like a salesperson unpacking her inventory, Long carefully hangs all of the lost and found clothing on hangers and arranges them in the cafeteria, wehre students come by and search for their missing items. In the wanging days of the schoolyear, this Queen of the Lost and Found is trying her darndest to match up precious lost items with their rightful owners, a ritual that goes on at schools across the region before the year is over. Districts like Montgomery county and others usually end up giving whatever goes unclaimed to charity.
