ME/Cupcake - 10/26/01 - Photog: Gerald Martineau Floris elementary School (Herndon, VA) Principal Dennis Nelson, dressed as Uncle Sam, and assistant Principal Lori Cleveland, dressed as Betsy Ross (foreground) and the second grade class of Kristen Haught pose with PTA president Terri Morey and the American Flag they fashioned out of 2,691 red, white, and blue frosted cupcakes. They believe it qualifies for the Guiness Book of World Records. A New Hampshire Bakery named Freed's FedEx'd 1,500 cupcakes to the school, then B.J's Bakery of the Fair Lakes Shopping Center donated another 1,200 resulting in a flag containing a total of 2,691 cupcakes. The students iced each of the cupcakes with the appropriate color. When finished it weighed over 26 pounds. The flag will be the centerpiece of the school's American Hero Ball Friday night and individual cupcakes will be avaiable for a donation to the American Red Cross.
