Deadly Earthquake and Tsunami Hits Indonesia's Island of Sulawesi
PALU, INDONESIA - OCTOBER 12: A boy plays with his smartphone as they attend a mass prayer on Talise beach after being hit by a tsunami on October 12, 2018 in Palu, Indonesia. Indonesian officials extended its search operation to Friday evening, two weeks after a devastating earthquake and tsunami hit the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, as the death toll climbed past 2,073 and authorities warn another 5,000 people remain missing and feared buried in mud and rubble. Authorities have said that any bodies unearthed will likely be decayed beyond identification and efforts will shift focus to the injured and displaced, estimating it will take two years to rebuild the city of Palu. Life is beginning to return to normal in some areas after a deadly tsunami triggered by a magnitude 7.5 earthquake slammed into Indonesia's coastline on the island of Sulawesi last month, which displaced more than 80,000 people destroyed over 65,000 homes.
