View of the historical buildings of the Grand Place from Rue (street) Charles Buls - Stockfoto

The Grand Place is occupied on each side by a number of guild houses, in addition to a few private houses. In their current form, they are largely the result of the reconstruction after the bombardment of 1695. The strongly structured facades with their rich sculptural decoration and their lavishly designed gables, with pilasters and balustrades, are based on Italian Baroque with some Flemish influences. On the background from right to left the buildings: Joseph et Anne, L'Ange, La Chaloupe d'or, Le Pigeon, Le Marchand d'or and the King's House or Breadhouse (French: Maison du Roi) building containing the Museum of the City of Brussels
