Spalding water tower. - Stockfoto
The Chatterton Tower, a large water tower and municipal office building in Spalding, Lincolnshire, UK, a market town in the Lincolnshire fens. The tower, which provides drinking water to the town and local area, was built in 1955 and named after George William Chatterton, then chairman of the water board. Its concrete exterior was originally not painted; the painting in a terracotta and white tulip scheme was done in 1997. The fens are very flat and water towers are required to provide a head of pressure through the gravity feed of water. The tower is also a platform for telecommunications systems.
