This image shows cells that have lost a significant amount of water from the cytoplasm because they are in a hypertonic environment (5% NaCl). Large spaces are evident between the cell wall and cytoplasm which has shrunk (plasmolysis). This image also shows: yellow nuclei, cytoplasm with many granules and thick, dark cell walls. Stained with iodine.
