Odontopteris, genus of fossil seed ferns found in the coal measures of the Carboniferous that have pinnatifid fronds with indistinct midribs and veins not forming a network. Lepidodendron is an extinct genus of primitive, vascular, tree-like plants, also known as scale trees, related to the quillworts and lycopsids (club mosses). Pecopteris is a now extinct genus of ferns that lived from the late Devonian and thrived in the Carboniferous period. Calamites is a genus of extinct arborescent horsetails to which the modern horsetails are closely related. Sigillaria is a genus of extinct, spore-bearing, arborescent (tree-like) plant.
