The national flag of the People's Republic of China, commonly referred to as the Five-star Red Flag, consists of a red background adorned with five yellow stars in the upper left corner. The design includes one large star and four smaller stars arranged in a semicircle around it. This flag has served as the national emblem of China since the People's Republic was established on October 1, 1949. The red color symbolizes the Chinese Communist Revolution, while the five stars represent the unity of the four social classes of Chinese people, depicted by the smaller stars, under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), represented by the large star. The flag was first raised by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) on a flagpole overlooking Tiananmen Square in Beijing during a ceremony on October 1, 1949, marking the founding of the People's Republic of China.
