Prolific LA-based composer lionel Cohen has been producing music insatiably for over twenty years and now has a repertoire of thousands of recorded songs and instrumental compositions in a multitude of styles. His discipline and creativity have garnered him over 150 IMDb credits and over 1,000,000 plays on Spotify. He has produced countless indie artists, and has commercially released over 100 albums of his own music. “Quantity is no substitute for quality,” he declares, “But practice does make perfect!”.
His band, " The Plastic FanTastics " has received critical acclaim in the New York rock scene; described as "a cross between Nine Inch Nails and Love And Rockets" by Babysue.com. "The Plastic Fantastics combine the anger and angst of old school industrial with a little punk flair [...] Catchy music and lyrics, done to perfection" writes industrial.org. Wayne Kramer of MC5 adds, “It's so refreshing to listen to a band of this generation explore a new sound.”
lionel has recently completed producing Maggie Kim's sophomore album "Rock Tease" (including the remix of a track with John Legend), Swiss artist Jess Ublime's debut album (including tracks with Steve Howe of "Yes"), as well as a new "Best of" album for The Plastic FanTastics. He is currently scoring several independent features, writing for music libraries, and savouring the success of his "acoustic" cover albums: "The Acoustic Sessions".
Since the late 1980's, his body of work has expanded into almost every medium possible. In Montreal, lionel began his career as a guitar player in heavy metal bands, however, his initial love of cinema prompted his studies in film, photography and the fine arts throughout both college and university in Canada, (this is where he developed his passion for scoring motion pictures), followed by audio engineering once in New York.
lionel's profession has been primarily as a Film & TV composer. He has composed music for television shows for MTV, ABC, NBC, Oxygen, Canal+, Discovery, Showtime, Biography, NatGeo and Food Network. His film works include The Lion and The Lamb, Repeat, Meridian, Stiff Luv, The Vinyl Frontier, The Pool, The Bigger The Louder, and various student projects. And his commercial works include Sony PSP, Cadillac, Buick, BMW, Mercedes, Glenfiddich, Carslberg, Verizon, Adidas, DirectTV, Louis Vuitton, Kohl's and Macy's, to name a few.
lionel was born in France to a Moroccan father and a French mother. He was raised in Canada, and subsequently moved to New York City, where he lived for over 15 years. He now resides in Los Angeles, CA. He has always found expression as a musician, composer, producer, painter, photographer, writer, graphic designer and short film director. He has established himself as a multidisciplinary artist and a respected artist on the New York scene.
