KENYA-WILDLIFE-POACHING
Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) rangers move confiscated ivory in Nairobi on February 18, 2013. Two Tanzanian nationals were arrested with 16 pieces of ivory in Kenya's Ongata Rongai Township. They were travelling with a vehicle with a a false compartment under the back seat. With rare exceptions, trade in elephant ivory has been outlawed since 1989 after elephant populations in Africa dwindled from millions in the mid-20th century to some 600,000 by the end of the 1980s.
