HUNGARY-LIFESTYLE-ARCHITECTURE-COMMUNISM
TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY ESZTER ZALAN
Former mason Istvan Pucher, a 72 year-old pensioner, looks out of the window of his cube house in Kozarmisleny, on November 27, 2014. Hundreds of thousands of nearly identical, boxy houses sprung up across Hungary in the 1960s and 1970s, their ubiquitous standardisation becoming a symbol of the homogenisation of the Communist-era. Nearly 40 years later, the remaining examples of these funky facades represent a rare form of Communist-era individuality in the eyes of some, however to others they are a reminder of a shameful chapter in Hungary's past.
