Hammond chaired another COBRA meeting on the situation in Iraq, as Tornado fighter jets were readied to provide surveillance support for the humanitarian effort to deliver aid to civilians stranded after they fled advancing militants in the north. Abbott was in London to discuss the crisis in Iraq where jihadist militants have been sweeping through much of the Sunni heartland in northern Iraq after seizing the main northern city of Mosul in early June.
