A crackdown on the opposition after elections in Belarus has struck a potentially fatal blow to strongman President Alexander Lukashenko's bid to improve ties with the West, analysts said. Lukashenko, described as Europe's last dictator by Washington, won Sunday's polls outright with 79.6 percent of the vote on the back of a massive voter turnout of over 90 percent, the central election commission said.
